17 September 2019 was no ordinary day for India’s bank employees. All bank employees were waiting with bated breath for the outcome of the negotiations on eleventh bipartite wage settlement, plus an additional charter of demands between Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a forum of nine bank unions.

The protracted 11th bipartite wage settlement negotiations between bank unions and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) concluded on Wednesday, with both sides agreeing to an annual wage increase and allowances of 15 per cent of the wage bill as on March 31, 2017. Their new pay scales are expected to be implemented with effect from 1st January, 2016. Their new basic pay is expected to vary from 2.57 to 2.78 times their present pay. Even at the pre-revised level (i.e. 6th CPC level), their Basic Pay is higher than the revised Basic Pay of the bank staff, after 10th BPS. The 11th Bipartite Wage revision/Joint Note for Officers will be effective from 01-11-2017. Increase under this Wage Revision will be Rs.7898 crores per year i.e.
